About us

I've titled this page 'about us'. The truth is, it should be called 'about me', as this is only a one man band at the moment. Hopefully that will change one day. If you're interested, here is the story of how this mushroom thing came about.

  • Urban farming

While in my first year of university in Glasgow, I heard a podcast by a great mycologist named Paul Stamets. In the coming weeks, I grew my first cluster of oyster mushrooms, among others.

  • home experiments

I fell deep into the mycology rabbit hole. I had never considered quite how fascinating these mushroom things were. Neither a plant or an animal. Some are delicious, some can kill you, and some have strange medicinal properties. I would struggle to study for a biology test at school, yet somehow could consume endless hours of content about my newfound obsession.

  • something else

I'm still doing that engineering degree, but I've become pretty distracted by this business, for good or for worse. Who knows, maybe I will end up an electrical engineer, but for now I've found something I much prefer focusing my energy on. I've become pretty obsessed with making this a success.

  • Taking the dive

I realised in order to have success, I was going to have to take some risks. After spending all my money on packaging, equipment and materials, we reach today. As of the 10/03/2026, Muzza Mushrooms is live.

  • next steps

I've been lucky enough to share the growing experience with 10,000 people who have all bought a grow kit from this business. 1000's of primary school kids have learnt a little bit about the world of fungi through my donated kits, and I've helped plant a few trees along the way. I've not exactly changed the world, but I'm certainly doing something that I'm passionate about.

None of that is true of course, that's what I'm hoping to write on the 10/3/2027. Hopefully with a little help I can make it a reality.
