The Muzza Mushrooms Mini Mycologist programme offers UK primary teachers a free and engaging science resource by providing mushroom grow kits designed specifically for learning.

How it works

Teachers can apply for a free mushroom grow kit, and education pack using the form on this page.

The counter at the top of this page displays the number of education kits we have available to be donated right now.

Kits are distributed on a rolling basis and funded by public purchases. For every five kits sold, one is donated to a UK primary classroom.

Whats included


Each classroom kit includes:

  • A mushroom grow kit suitable for classroom use
  • Teacher guidance sheet
  • Clear, child-friendly growing instructions
  • Printable worksheets and observation activities
  • A school-ready risk assessment
  • “Mushroom expert” reward stickers

No other equipment is required.

Who is elligible

The programme is open to UK-based:

  • Primary school teachers
  • Classroom assistants and support staff
  • Home educators working with groups of children


We prioritise applications from primary classrooms and may use school email addresses to confirm eligibility.

Curriculum alignment

Scotland (CfE)

The Muzza Mushrooms Schools Programme supports learning within the Sciences (SCN) area of the Curriculum for Excellence.

  • SCN 0-01a / SCN 1-01a – Observing living things and how they depend on their environment
  • SCN 0-14a / SCN 1-14a – Distinguishing between living and non-living things, growth and development
  • SCN 1-20a – Carrying out practical activities to observe and explain learning
  • SCN 0-19a / SCN 1-19a – Developing inquiry and observation skills

England

The programme supports the Primary National Curriculum for Science, particularly within Living Things and Their Habitats and Working Scientifically.

  • Key Stage 1 – Observing and identifying living things; understanding growth and change
  • Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 4) – Classifying living things and exploring habitats
  • Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5) – Comparing life cycles and understanding biological processes
  • Working Scientifically – Making observations, recording findings, and discussing results
